EA members hold debate with outgoing and incoming EFA group presidents

On June 19, members of the European Alliance (EA) Group held a debate with both the incoming and outgoing presidents of the European Free Alliance (EFA) Group in the European Parliament. This event highlighted the strong and enduring relationship between our two groups, emphasizing our shared commitment to key principles such as subsidiarity, multilevel governance, diversity, and self-determination.

Diana Riba, newly elected president of the EFA Group, provided an insightful update on the European elections in Spain. She discussed the achievements of the coalition “Ahora Repúblicas,” which includes the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC), Basque Country Gather (EH Bildu), Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG), and Ara Més. Despite a challenging political landscape, Ahora Repúblicas successfully retained its three seats in the European Parliament, demonstrating the coalition’s resilience and continued support among voters.

Outgoing EFA President Jordi Solé reflected on the special relationship between the EFA and EA groups, underscoring the common objectives that unite us. He expressed his gratitude for the support and collaboration during his tenure and reaffirmed the importance of our joint efforts in promoting a more inclusive Europe which respects the right of self-determination.

EA group president Karl Vanlouwe thanked Mr Solé for the great cooperation over the past years, reaffirmed the strong ties between our two groups and added that this debate also sets a positive tone for future collaboration.
